The Living Wage:
People can thrive not just survive.

Workers on the Living Wage can live with dignity — that’s good for our collective wellbeing, our workplaces, and our economy.

What is the Living Wage Why pay the Living Wage? Who Pays the Living Wage

The Living Wage is an hourly rate. Set apart from the minimum wage, it’s worker and whānau-focused.

Paying the Living Wage rate is voluntary. Employers who pay the Living Wage want to make sure their workers get enough money to live with dignity.

The Living Wage considers basic expenses, and gives breathing room for rest, activities, or saving for a rainy day.

We need to be confident that the Living Wage does what we say. That’s why it’s independently calculated using the latest data.

"The leadership we can give to the community through this (LWE accreditation) is important but of course it’s about looking after our staff. We’ve got 8,000 odd staff in the Council organisation and being a good employer is really critical to me, and to us."

Phil Wilson CEO

"It makes absolutely no sense to me, that in a health care organization you would allow your own workers to live in poverty, when fundamentally you are a business trying to help people who have, perhaps had a health care issue because of that (housing & money) "

Braemar Hospital Fiona Michel CEO

"We're proud to share that we're now an Accredited Living Wage Employer. For us fairness matters. Paying a Living Wage is one way we can help build a fairer, more inclusive Aotearoa where everyone's work is valued" "

Brother New Zealand

"Accreditation is recognition that we are investing in our workers, which is good not only for them but also for their families and the wider community."
